ROYAL RACE MEETINGS.
ONE IN EACH ISLAND.
The Mayor, Dr Thacker, M.P. has received the following telegram from oir Francis Bell:
Replying to your telegram, special licenses have boon offered to the Racing Club at Auckland tor one dnv and another to the C.J-C. for one day. in , order that one special race meeting may bo held in each island during the - *" nco f vlslt t « ,« trotting license ncie also granted then two afternoons of the I nnee s visit to Christchurch would bo occupied by race meetings, winch I personally think would be iinl fortunate, fho question as to whether a special license should be granted to the Metropolitan Trotting Club at Christchurch has not been finally decided, and I think there are reasons for as well as against, the granting of such special license. One point must be taken as already decided without Uirther question. That is that a trotting meeting will not be substituted for a race meeting at Christchurch.
