STRIKE IN FIJI.

Some alarm has been caused by the imposition of a cable censorship on certain news relating to Fiji, and the alarm has led to the circulation of mischievous rumours. One of them has been that there have been serious happenings at Samoa, but this is quite incorrect, and there is no special cause for alarm about events at Fiji. Thera is st strike of Indian workers there, and this is a serious enough matter for the industry of tho group, threatening, it may be. tho peace and order of tho community. The New Zealand Government has-been asked to take certain action, and it is in respect of this action that the cable censorship is operative. Mr Alasscv made a brief statement to-day. “ There is nothing wrong at Samoa so far as I know,'’ lie said. “Everything is all right and going mi Tvell. I should think that this rumour must have originated from the fact that it has become necessary for tbo New . Zealand Government to send the Tutanekai to Fiji on account of the strike there. This is being done simply as a precautionary measure. A number of members of tho New Zealand Pormarn ent Force will travel by the steamer. There is no cause for alarm or panic or anything of that sort. We have had advice that wo should do this, and we are sending the ship. I hope that if may not be necessary for the men on board to land.”
