Arthur Roy Simpson was fined £3, in default twenty-one days’ imprisonment, for breaking hi, prohibition order. On a charge of drunkenneso ho was convicted and discharged. A SECOND LAPSE. Accused! pleaded guilty to all charges. Chief-Detective Mllvcnov said that accused had been employed ‘in the binding department of tho “Press” Company. Ho had stolen the articles from tliero and sold, them to various secondhand dealers. Ou May 18 last accused had been charged with the theft, of seven bicycles. He had been convicted aud ordered to come up for sntenc© when called upon, and had also been placed on probation. All the stolen articles had been recovered. Tho Magistrate said he would sentence tho accused to three months’ imprisonment, but would recommend that accused bo committed to an industrial institution. ASSAULT. Thomas Body was charged that yesterdav, at Christchurch, ho assaulted Henry Hogan Foote by striking him on the race with his fist. Body admitted the charge, but pleaded that he had had provocation. Sergeant Cassidy said that Foote had refused to repay some, money lent him by accused. He believed that accused had had a good deal of provocation for tno assault-. The Magistrate (to accused): Even if the man did not. pay* you had no business to take it out of .'llis hide. Accused wag fined 10s, without costs, MAINTENANCE CASE. William F. G. Robb was sentenced to fourteen days’ imprisonment for disobeying a maintenance order. __ u
