SUMNER RIPPLES.

EVENTS OF THE WEEK. ("From Our Correspondent.] PEACE MEMORIAL. A resident suggests that the esplanade between the bridge and the pier should tie the basis of the proposed peace memorial, of which, by the way, but little has la tely been heard, id is proposal is that the sea wall, which is at present unfinished, should he raised an additional two feet by suitable stonework and that the present bare polos for the electric wires should bo replaced by more artistic looking supports and the present electric, lights exchanged for lamps of larger size, greater brilliance and a greater decorative value About, tho centre of tbo wall bo suggests the erection of a suitable piece of statuary surmounting a base upon which would ho recorded the names of those who served at the front. This if accompanied by the asphalting of the esplanade at this spot, together with tho present row of .Norfolk Island pines he thinks would form a beauty spot that tho borough would bo proud of. lie feels sure that with very little effort ho could raiso about £3OO himself and ho is prepared to undertake the designing and overseeing of his proposal. If the council would do the asphalting he thinks a sum of £SOO would cover the rest of the cost. PERSONAL. Airs Isaac Wilson is spending a few days at the accommodation house on tho Cashmere Hills.
