NOTES ON THE "GAMES. , Although a trifle heavy, the Edtrav, are green was m goad order this morning. It, livened up as the dav aarniicod. The game between C. Fraser (St Johns) and S. Sharp (Stratford) war veiw closely rontested. At the ninth head Sharp was two up. The next head produced a good tussle between Sharp and 1-raser. Bach shot the jf.nps placed was a winner- Fraser had the last shot, and he drew beautifully and scored one. A three on the eleventh head, and a three on tho twelfth head put Fraser nvo in tho lead. By the fifteenth head Sharp had rut three out of this margin. On the eighteenth head Sharp “ scored a three, and another three on the next head put him four in front. AVitli one head to go, Sharp was six up hj rascr gained the last head, but scored only one. For the first eight beads of his game against T. Gray (Kelburn), A. F. SpR. ler (Bminora.) failed to score- Gray made 13 in these heads. This unlu«'kv number brought a. change of fortune to .spiller, who scored four on the next lead. A two on the eleventh head brought him within eight of bis opponent, but by the eighteenth bead h> was still this distance behind Grav who won with a good margin- ' ’ Up to the twelfth head, when the score was 10 all, E. Travers (AVaimatej and a. C- Tyrrell (Lyall Bar) were running very evenly. On the thirteenth head, Travers scored a five, and by the fifteenth head he was eight up. After this Travers scored well. °O n the sixteentn head he scored a three on the eighteenth a four su'd on the nineteenth a three. Tins gave him a lead of 19 and n. vert' comfortable winA game that was evenly contested at vhe start was that between 0 Amtmnn (St Clair.) and C. 11. Beynon (Petone) AAlien tho twelfth head was reached Amtman was only one up. Howevc l '. Amtman gained the next- four heads' scoring throes in two of them. This gave hini-n lead of nine. He was still in tho lead by seven at the nineteenth head, and a. two on the next head made the game hisThere was a very even game between AV. Dec (Martin) and AV. Pankburst (Westport). Of the first eleven heads, Dec gained five and Panklnirst six. hut Dee scored one more point than Paukhnrsl. At the twentieth lend Dee was two in the load. In the last head

Pankhurst was lying one, when Dee,with his last shot, got in on the kitty and scored one. The scoring was low throughout the game. Most of the gomes at tho Edgoware green this morning wore evenly con-, tested, but perhaps the closest' game was that between J. A. Nash (Palmerston North) and J, T. Gaidar (Phoenix). Nash had a, slight advantage at the start, but by the fourteenth head Colder was one up. A tie occurred on tin last head- The additional head resulted in Nash scoring one. M. Bremncr (Invercargill) had slightly the best of the first half of his game against R. Wylie, the Kaiapci veteran, but the two were equal on the thirteenth head, Wylie then got ahead with

ft good five. and on the seventeenth lie:ul was Reading b,v four, with a score ot 16. To a. one which Wylie added m tile next head. Dreamer replied with three, but "Wylie followed with two, and Bromner succeeded in getting only one, instead of the live which wore needed for success, on the twenty first headA good start was made by E, G. Fountain (Wellington) against i). Buchanan (Green Island). In the next head Buchanan retaliated, and ho established a, lead on the third. From then, however, Fountain took the initiative, and did sonic good scoring- On the thirteenth head he made a big jump from 11 to 21. One of Buchanan’s rinks had dislodged several of his own side s bowls by a drive, and it is said that Buchanan’s mat slipped just aa he delivered a howl following on this misfortune, with the result that it went ftstrav. A two, a one, and a. throe brought Fountain’s score to 27, and although Buchanan got two and two ones in the next three heads, victory went to Fountain with a bias of 12. A very even game resulted from the meeting of ID H. Stephens (Kelburn) and A. G. Fookes (Carlton). They were equal on the second head, the fifth head, the eleventh head, the thirteenth head, and, curiously enough, they stood 11.-11 and 113-13 on the last-men-tioned two- Stephens established a lead of two in the sixteenth head, but Fookes emit ahead to 23 in the next four heads, and, although his opponent gained three on the twenty first head, won the game. _F. A- Laws (Victoria) fell behind J. "Woollcr (Bemuera) in the first half of their game this morning, and failed to retrieve his fortune. Later, in the first head, he scored one, but it was not until the sixth head that ho added a, four. Ho repeated the score in the eighth, head, but by that time "Woolhr had eleven, and this he swelled to 17 •when the game was two-thirds of the way through, whereas Lavs only added one to his score. Vl'ho scores stood 20-1.1 in Wooller’s favour on ho nineteenth head, and ho increased it to 22-15 before the game finished. Although I. Woolf (Christchurch) got much the boat of E. Ilarraway (Dunedin) in the first ten heads, flnrrnwav picked up then, and established a bare advantage by the thirteenth bend, ft loose, head on the part of the Christchurch skip having allowed Harrawfty to score five. Woolf had an opportunity of drawing it. hut was short with one howl, and overdrew with his next. Another one went to Harm way, then Woolf climbed from 14 to Ifi in the next two heads. Harrawny pained a three, Woolf a one and a Vo, met then, on the nineteenth and twentieth heads Ham way won the game with two onesIn his game against E. Travers (Wn.imate) Sharp (Strafford) played equally as well as ho did in his game with 0. Fraser (St John’s). By the tenth head tho score was Sharp IG, Travers 4. On the eleventh head Stratford scored three and cm the thirteenth four. With seven beads to go Sharp was 19 up. A six on ihe sixteenth bond and a three on the seventh gave Sharp a lead of 27 and an easy win. _ There was a unique head in the Sharp v. 1 ravers game. The head was ft long one. Stratford gained the advantage at the start, the Waimato lend putting both his bowls in the ditch. Waimatc’s second played one of bis bowls wide, o ith his other bowl lie tried to smash tho head, but the bowl missed everything and went into the ditch. 1 i,e next two Waimato men resorted to driving, but- their bowls also tound the ditch, along with two of L-iintford’s bo*«vls ■which they .succeeded hi hitting. V lion Sharp had his last bowl to piny ihe position was that lie had five, bowls on the green, whilst his opponent had none. Sharp did not try m get anywhere near the kitty with his last bowl bub all tho same it added one. to his total of six for the bead. mweral old bowlers remarked that i/i all their experience they had never seen such a bond. Ln to the tenth bead C. Autumn \St Uatr) led by a slight margin from W Deo (Alnitai), but a throe on the oleventn head put Dec in front. Tho next lour beads saw the Alaitai rink do soaio heavy scoring, bringing; tho score at tho sixteentn head to Deo 23 Am man 8. Antman got two on * the seventh head but Deo replied with a three on the and this nave mm a tend of 16. Antman scored a five on tne nineteenth and a four ou the twentieth He then needed eirim to win but scored only two on the Inst head. T. Gray (Kelburn) started o2 bv scoring a three in his game against € rr.iser (bt Johns). Ho got another three on tno seventh head, and a third three on the ninth. Fraser scored sower but more consistently, and at the eleventh head he was two up How ever, a four on the twelfth head put Gray m the load. By the nineteenth head Gray had increased his lend to nine. Fraser put on a four-on the twentieth head, and this gave him a sporting chance of winning. He plavcd well on the last head but made only half of what he required to win. A very clever and interesting mime resulted from the meeting 0 f E C Fountain ('Wellington) and \ ' G Fookes (Garlton) in the second round at the St Aloans green this afternoon, lime alter time tile advantage was gamed by the nicest distinction, and cries of “great shot!” and “well played!” were frequent.
