THAT AGGRESSIVE SPIRIT.

• A groat deal has been said about the aggressiveness of the woman of tho present day, but. can one wonder that tins characteristic is becoming more dominant when one realises that the vast majority of women are faced with the problem of earning their own livhm. In a man this trait goes under quite a. different name, the man is not aggressive, he is simply determined, purposeful and courageous, and ho is considered to have the makings of a successful man- To a, woman these qualities are just as necessary hut, possessing, and using them—unless she has much tact—she receives the ngl v misnomer “aggressive.” To many of us who have our way to make in tho world it is absolutely necessary to grasp every opportunity and sometimes to push the point where our finer feelings' would con used to stand aside. Merely to attract attention i s not to gain distinction, but very often the fact of having attracted attention places ns on the road which leads to distinction, and it is tho getting on to the road, not. the Mellowing of its course, that is the difficulty. Of course, it is better, to be remembered at the end of the day for tho kindness you did than lor the envy you aroused. Still that which caused the envy may have placed you in . the position of using opportuuiti6s that otherwise would never linvp, come your way. To plod unobtrusively on is a most worthy procedure, hut it becomes very humdrum at times and tho much vaunted sclf-forgettiim track leads inevitably to the consequence of being world forgot. And after all looking at life from the point of view of tho humanitarian what wo can do for others very much depends upon tho amount of power wo possess and tho success we have achieved.
