WANDERERS v, VETERANS

An interesting and enjoyable cricket match wa.s played yesterday between the Wanderers’ team and one from the Veterans’ Cricket Club. Veterans batted first (Cook contributing 30, Fox 31, Gillies 23), and made 128, The Wanderers, were in excellent batting form and made 185 for eight wickets (J. D Lawrence 18 retired. Probblo 44 retired. Cow’lin 46 retired, Arnott 28 not out). For Wanderers, Arnotl and ,T. Martin bowled best, while for Veterans White and Cook were the best trumllevs. Barrett and Clark wore responsible for brilliant fielding. Collett, for the Wanderers, proved very efficient as wicketkeeper, catching no fewer than -five behind the stumps and stumping two. Refreshmenta were provided by the Veterans' Club, and the health of both teams was toasted enthusiastically. MATCH AT ASHBURTON. A start was made yesterday, at Ashburton, with a match between an Ashburton County eleven and a. team of Christchurch player's selected by Mr H. Waters. The homo team batted first, and when stumps were drawn had lost nine wickets for 145.
