ST SAVIOUR’S ORPHANAGE.

BAZAAR AT BISHOPSCOURT. A bazaar was conducted at Bishopscourt, Victoria. Street, on Saturday afternoon, in aid of the school improvements and prize fund for St Saviour’s Orphanage, Shirley. It was opened l by Mrs A. 0. Sondston (president of the House Committee), who said that money was needed to instal electrical heating apparatus at, the, orphanage, and that it could not be taken out of. the ordinary funds. Bhc explained that ns the orphanage still was in quarantine, none of the children could ate fond the bazaar, and thtit none of the goods offered had come from the institution. She also appealed for help to give the children a holiday at Waikiiku Beach, half the number to go nest month, and the other half later. She had £lO in hand for that purpose, she said, hut she wished to Increase it to £IOO.

Mr H. Righton (secretary of the orphanage) said that there had been a great deal of sickness amongst the girls at Shirley, but tho hoys’ institution,, at Timaru, was completely free from sickness. More than ha Jr the number of girls at Shirley had had influenza, scarlet fever, tonsilitis or diphtheria. Forty-three girls recently had returned from Bottle Lake after suffering from scarlet fever, and fourteen. still were down with the complaint. The expenses during the past year, on account of the sickness, had been greatly increased. Amongst _ those present were Miss Eastwood (in charge of the orphanage) and Sister Eleanor (assistant). Thera was a stall, aid of the Melanesian Mission’s Gela School for Girls. Mrs A. Brown provided a refreshment and oake stall.
