Tor this purpose it was necessary to sivciue a plots of ground within reasonable distance ol the city sufficiently large to provide all the courts which would bo requited. For sonic time the matter has received caroiul consideration irom a subcommittee set up by the association, and this committee had inspected numerous properties offered lo tbo association, and had also carciully gone into Uio question og finance. After inve.stiga.ting tho matter thoroughly the committee had decided to recommend tho association to purchase a piece of ground situated on Ferry Rond, which ' tV3 n within the two-penny tram section, and was in every respect suitable for tho purpose. The committee wore not, however, wedded to this site, but it w-»s tho best which had come under thoir notice, and, provided tho money was forthcoming,..they considered it. should b» purchased. The question of finance had given tho committee a good deal of thought. The amount required was in the vicinity of 63000, and in order to raise the money tho committee had thought of various schemes, including a monster art union, for which a bungalow should be offered as first prize. He hoped that all players would give their support to tho movement in order that tho courts could he provided for the purpose of playing inter-club matches, • intorprovincial matches, Dominion championships and even matches with Australian players. It is proposed that the courts should bo called the “ Canterbury Lawn Tennis Permanent Memorial Association Courts." Mr G. L. Berry moved tho following resolution That this meeting of tennis players, representing aJnJiated club* in and around Christchurch, heartily approves ot tho proposal by the Canterbury Lawn Tennis Association to establish ossociation courts as a form of memorial to those payers who lost their lives in the war.” The motion was seconded by Mr L J Taylor. The motion was seconded by Mr P. Hsrman. In thp course of the discussion on the motion, it was stated that the estimated cost of purchase, laying down twelve courts, -slicing, netting and putting the grounds in order was about 63000 T^ 1 ® resolution was carried unanimously. Mr O. A. Dawson moved:—“ That a special committee be set up in conjunction with the present Grounds Committee of tho association, to consider carefully ways and means of raising an adequate sum to finance the purchase of tho laud and lav down a sufficient number of courts.” Mr Dawson expressed tho hope that tho association would not find it necessary to hold any art union for the purpose cf raising money, as it would be a poor tribute to the memory of: tbo lallon soldiers to have to conduct a. gigantic Ifamblo for thft purpose of providing a memqnal. Ho also suggested that, instead of raising the wholo of the money required at tho present time, they should endeavour to raise 61000, and leave tho balance of £2OOO on mortgage. Angus moved“ That it ho a recommendation to tho Special Committee, to. bold a monster art union as a means of raising funds, a bungalow fo bo purchased for this purpose and given ns a prize.” Tho motion was seconded hr Mr F. J. Murray and carried. It was decider! that a. strong appeal should bo made to all affiliated clulia to support tho association in the matter. LITTLE AKALOA v. AKAROA. A tennis match waa played on the Recreation Ground courts. Akaron. on Saturday between the Little Akaloa Club and tbo local club the former winning by 114 games to 9, The weather was not at all suitable for play, which did not start until noon.
