The Star. THURSDAY, DECEMBER 4, 1919. MR MASSEY’S VISIT.

Mr Massey is returning from his tour of the southern part of the South Island, and is to speak in Christchurch this evening. We hope that he will receive an attentive hearing, so that ho will have the fullest opportunity of giving his own exposition of the Reform policy. Mr Massey’s recollections of his previous meetings in Christchurch cannot bo of the happiest kind, but his meeting to-night will be hold under more favourable auspices. The public of Christchurch, wo fancy, is really curious in regard to the Reform policy. This may be due in some measure to the circumstance that the city seats arc not being contested by the Reformers. The contests there ore between Liberals and Labourites. Halfhearted attacks are being made on Ric-ca-rton and Avon, but neither of tho Reformers announced can be regarded, even by friendly eyes, as a capable exponent of Reform principles. Mr Massey. therefore, has a wide field open to him when he has the opportunity to with tho performances and promises of the Reform Government, Tho public would like to hear from him what panacea he has for the everincreasing cost of living; what he will do to solve tho housing problem, seeing that the only practicable scheme so far has come from Sir Joseph Ward; what he will do to eliminate profiteering, and to place taxation on the right shoulders; what he has in contemplation in the way of extending State enterprises and in the direction of nationalisation? All those things are surely coming, and Mr Massey may bo able to show that he is preparing for full speed ahead instead of clapping on the brake.
