~ __ j MEETING OF EXECUTIVE. The Canterbury Progress League’s executive met last night; present — Messrs A. G. Henderson (in the chair)) J- A. I'Tesher, 0. T. Aschman. A. Galbraith, 0, M. Mnrriner, D. Barclay, and H. j. Horrall. Mr Holland, who asked to bo excused from attendance at any meetings of the league until after the general election, was granted three weeks’ leave of absence. Mr T. Gee wrote stating that as bo was resigning from the u K-Viwi v.nult.V Council be felt ho could no longer represent Cheviot on the council of the league. The league was doing splendid work, and the public appreciated the efforts being made. It was decided to forward Mr Gee's letter to the Cheviot- County Council. A letter, written on behalf of residents of We*- 1 lons, asked for the league’s assistance in keeping the post oliice and telephone bureau open. Mr Shipley said ho was opposed to the league graining • financial assistance. The league, however, could approach the postal authorities. A motion to th is effect, moved by Mr Shipley, I was carried. A telegram from the secretary of the Invercargill Chamber of Commerce asked tin* league's support towards the restoration of the South Island and Melbourne shipping service. It was agreed to recommend tho Government that the Land Tenure Commission -appointed to investigate in Otago should extend its. operations to Canterbury, and that, it should include a member of the Canterbury Progress League.
