SNOW IN DECEMBER.
FIRST IN TWENTY YEARS. TWO INCHES AT KENNEDY'S BUSH. For the first time in twenty years a fall of snow has to bo recorded on the Cashmere Hills in December. Last night's fall on Cashmere Hills was lying two inches deep at Kennedy's Bush i early this morning, but a telephone in- j quiry showed that it had nearly all disappeared before, noon. ' ! the present spriug has been 'remark- j able for late cold storms, and it is -a ' striking coincidence that snow has been j on the Cashmere Hills on September 2, I October '2, November 2 and' December 2. Curiously enough December 1 was the hottest day of the .season, and it I was followed by a, wintry snap not quite so violent as the ono that came early in September, when H..M.S. New Zealand was in port, but with a better warning. A very severe frost is eonfidentlv predictc'd for to-night, and orchardists. where possible, should use frost breakers, and gardeners should cover up | peas, potatoes, beans and other spring I crops. " i Losses of shorn sheep and lambs mav j be expected in the country.
