JAMESON v. PATERSON. At tho Supreme Court yesterday his Honor Air Justice llerdman concluded t.iio bearing of tho case in which Archie Donald Paterson (Mr G. 'l'. Weston), of Christchurch and London, proceeded against Stanley Wynne Jameson, of Christchurch, accountant (Air Ai. J. Gresson) lor tuo return of certain documents and balance of money (£ll9 2s 3dj and damages (£l3) for detention of the documents. Defendant counter-claimed for £2(5, for certain work carried out by him under power of attorney. In delivering judgment, his Honor dealt first with the counter-claim, stating that undoubtedly during Paterson's absence in England Jameson had done him services which were of benefit to him. His Honor was satisfied that Jameson was entitled to more than £275 ho had already received. Jameson had claimed at the rate of £2OO per year, and his Honor thought that £175 per year would meet the case. That, with the deduction of £275 ho had received, would leave him £206 os, which sum ho would be awarded, with costs against Paterson. lu regard to the claim, his Honor held that the defendant had not done right in, holding the £ll9 3s 2d, and the documents, over which he was entitled neither to a particular nor a general lion. Judgment would be given for Paterson for tho £ll9 3s 2d.rand £1 damages would be allowed for tho detention of the documents, all of which would have to he returned to' Paterson. Costs would he allowed Patorsou as on an action for a claim of £l5O.

Referring at yesterday’s annual meeting of the Canterbury Society of Arts to the death of Sir John Denniston, Air N. L. Macbeth, president of tho society, said that Sir John had taken an enthusiastic interest in the doings of the society for a large number of years, and had given them the benefit of lus advico. The meeting expressed sincere sympathy with Sir John's family in the loss they had sustained. '
