The RedcliHs Hall Committee, in response to tho request oi the Council, forwarded a staiemout of expenditure in connection witli the proposed hall. Thu statement included to following items:—Cost ol site considered to be worth £ICO, balance given by Mr Coleman, £80; estimates for the' building o» a hall and three rooms according to plan submitted, between £2300 and £2700, say £2500; furnishing of the hall, piano and billiard table, estimated at £509; lighting priced at £59; contingencies £370; total, £3500. The committee did not intend to spend more than £3509. The interest and sinking fund would be £2OO. The rateable value of the area proposed to bo rated was £77,000, which, at Id in tho £l, would return £l2O. Tho committee was sure Unit threequarters of the ratepayers would he prepared to pay an average rate of 8s 4d to secure the advantages of the hall. The maintenance should not exceed £l5O. The committee considered that this could, bo raised as follows;—In \ mo library, £25, billiard room £75, social n\m £2O, picture show £25, private entertainments £5. Sunday services £lO. concerts and socials £10; total £l7O. the committee would arrange tor three committees who i'ould guarantee to take a lease of tho rooms and raise the revenue set n-ra-nrt t' em, and the committee as a whole would undertake to superintend the letting of the hall.
