HELPING THE NURSES.
CONVALESCENT RESTHOUSE. SUCCESSFUL GARDEN FETJE. A successful garden.fete was,held Su the grounds of the General Hospital this afternoon to raise, funds for n Convalescent llestehtrisc for nurses who suffer from sickness, and fatigue. This is almost the first effort to raise funds for the rest-house. A site has not boon selected, aud the siao of the institution will be determined by the total sum collected. It is not intended to restrict the rest-house to nurses at the General Hospital. * The feto was well arranged and ordered, and, as the rose season is in its prime. ■ .. Mid stalls were bright with blooms- The centre of activity was in the groves north-west of the Hospital, where the trees gave shelter from the sun and from the south-west wind that prevailed. The stalls were of the usual character. In addition there were sales-girls with, flowers, sweets, pictures and fancy work. The fete was promoted by members of the Hospital Lady Visitors’ Association, Miss Wilson being the chief organiser. 'The still-holders were:— Christmas gift stall, Mrs Hargreaves and Mrs Hume; bags and aprons, Hisses Kirk; cake stall, Mrs R. W-An-derson, Mrs Bennett and Mrs Johnson; household stall, Mrs Beauohamp-Lane; sweets stall, in charge of Hospital sisters; flower stall, Mrs J. J. Collins; wedding cako competition, Mrs JKelly; produce, Mrs Percy Overton, variety, Mrs Blackburne, Mrs Cocks, Miss Maling and Miss Todhunter: balloons, Miss Cov.Tishaw; men’s requisites, Mrs Studholrae and Miss Overton; toys, Mrs E. Turner; tea, under the management of the Hospital Lady Visitors’ Association, assisted by Mrs Hogg, Mrs Hutton, Mrs P, Cox,. Mrs Sandston, Mrs Pairman, .Mrs Manning, Mrs A. Jamieson, Mrs J. ’F. Duncan, Mrs Stanley Foster, Mrs Lee, Miss Ponder, Mrs Peppier, Mrs White, Mrs Stuart, .Mrs A. Morten, Mrs Cotterill and Mrs Boyle; fairy well, Mrs Herbert; books and -magazines, Mrg W. J. Hunter; odds and ends, Mrs CareyHill; ice cream and soft drinks, Mrs Ballin. Besides the stalls there were various side shows, including fortunetellers, games under the direction of Mr L. Harper, and a vaudeville entertainment by Mr G. Williamson’s troupe,
