STATEMENT BY MR SULLIVAN. Ladies and Gentlemen, — Newspaper space is expensive. I must, therefore severely condense what I have to say .to you. ) (1) No members of my committee or of the Labour Party have interrupted the meetings of my opponent, Mr 6. "W. Russell. The Labour Government rel duced the prices of various goods by State enterprise and has made an accumulated profit on these enterprises amounting to £262,940 17s Id. (31 Labour does not propose, to nationalise carriers’ carts, sewing machines,a nd so forth. You are told this fairy tale to make the Labour programme look ridiculous. Labour is not out to fight the small man. It is out to fight the big monopolist who has increased the cost of living to the worker and the small man alike. (4) The wickedest political conspiracy ever worked in Now Zealand is that in which Liberal and Masseyite politicians and newspapers have joined to associate the Labour Party in .New Zealand with those guilty of murder and rapine in Russia, when they term the Labour Party Bolsheviks. I have lived my life amongst you, worked in your factories, and on your newspapers. You know the kind of man I aiu, and many of you will vote for me as a protest against this shameless conspiracy. The reason my opponents tell yon these things is to distract your attention from the fact that the National Government helped the profiteers to exploit you, and also to distract your attention from the Influenza Epidemic Commission report. 1 Yours sincerely, 10.
