She slipped the muscles of her cjuarters, and the services of a veterinary surgeon had to he called in. Although she will probably be useless for racing, it is hoped to save her for the stud. The New Zealand, contingent fared batQy on Saturday at the Victoria Racing meeting. Surveyor's performance in finishing fourth in the Oaulfield Cup kept Mm in favour for I kbe Victoria Derby, but though he ran k. good race, he had to strike his colours Jo Richmond Main and Artilleryman. Mr W. 6. Stead's two-year-old Delight tan disappointingly in the Maribyrnong Plate, fading, out at the business end of the journey. So far, the team of Hawke's Bay: horses which G. She was slow to move off and hung out so badly thai' her rider could not set after the leaders at her top until the home turn had been made. In the meantime the leaders had established a winning break and Delight did well to finish fourth. Mr J.. M. Thonph never more than a, useful sort. Roval Irish has had „ great innnings, and it speaks volumes for his owner-trainer that the old horse is still sound and well, and that in his ninth racing season _ he is capable of winninig each of his two starts :,[ Whangaroi. One has to hark hack to January 27. 1019. to find Royal Irish's oiuliie in a. Turf R-egister for the first

time. Ho made his debut in the Ferry Handicap at Takapuna, and beat Ml but Surplus. Stakes were not as good then as nowadays, and two firsts, a second and a third, in five starts, only brought, in £135. As a four-yoar-oid Royal Irish won the Shortland Plate at.
