ADDINGTON". The monthly meeting of the Addington ~ bcnooi Committee was held on Tuesday. " et-ening, Mt IV. B. Gahagan presiditifr'over o lull attendance. Airs Merry and Mr W. G. Sloan tendered tJietr resignations owing to tneir leaving tbo district. The resignations were received with regret. It was decided to .onvard a letter to Mrs ilerry, cocprressuigj ins committee s appreciation of her sis years' service, and also to request her to retain uer seat on tho School Committees* Association. The Education Board secretary wrote, stating that a new fence would bo erected at the caretaker’s house, also a washhouse. The committee expressed its appreciation of tho work recently done ,cy the board. The head master’s report showed juniber on roll 717, highest attendance 672. Mr Maxwell had been granted a month’s leave, and Mrs Brocket was acting as relieving teacher. In tho writing competitions for tho schools the pupils were my successful._ gaining four first prizes, two seconds, one third and one fourth, including three medals. In the rhyming alphabet competition five pupils gained prize*, and in the “ Peerless ’’ competition three pupils gained first prizes. It was decided to congratulate the winners through the head masThe sum of £4 Os 8d had been handed to tee secretary of the Dr Barnardo’s Homes Fund, tho proceeds realised-from an “ o<ig and potato” day. It was decided to re-form the cricket pitch, and to erect lockers for the sports material. It was decided to convex to Mr Seay and family the committee s congratulations on their late, son Clarence having been awarded the Meritorious Service Medal, while on active service;* also to. ■ forward a letter of congratulation to Mr J, G.‘ : Poison, a former teacher of tho school, on his appointment as vice-Prinoipol of the Norma! Training College.
