MATCHES WEDGED IN BENZINE CARGO.
MYSTERIOUS AFFAIR IN GISBORNE.
[Pep. Press Association.] GISBORNE, October 21. Air AT'Lear, the manager of Messrs Richardson and Company, Limited, reports that the steamer Awahoq took from Auckland 465 oases of benzine. AVher. the last of these were being unloaded yesterday at the bottom of the hold a paper box of wax vestas was found wedged in between, two of the cases. Air Ai’Leay states that fortunately the vessel had an exceptionally smooth passage. Had she been labouring and the cargo moving, it is quite possible that there would have been another Tainul disaster.
