SPRING FLOWERS.

HORTICULTURAL SOCIETY’S SHOW. A FINE DISPLAY. The Art Gallery to-day presented a real glory of colour on Iho occasion of the Canterbury Horticultural Societys Spring Flower Show. Tho entries were excellent in number, and the quality of tlio exhibits generally was up to a high standard. With tho changeability of tho weather, and especially of late, hot days alternating with cold .winds and rain, devotees of the narcissi have experienced many disappointments, but ncvertiie- • less the show of blooms was surprisingly -good. A matter for regret was that there was net a greater number of individual competitors in the various classes. There were a dozen entries in tho ladies’ amateur class fox decorative dinner tables, and some-of tho entries were outstandingly good in arrangement and colouring, but tho general average was not altogether up to the mark of lormer shows. Tho collection of pot plants provided a fine setting in the smaller hall, and the tints of the many blooms held distinctive attention. Tho displays in the cut flower classes were attractive, although the tulips showed especially the effects of tho vagaries of tbo weather. Great interest yras evinced in the special daffodil competition between an exhibit of varieties raised in England and Europe, and grown by Mr It. Gibson, Kiverslea, Taranaiu, and an chxibit of varieties raised and grown on Co’onel R. Heaton Rhodes’s estate, “ Otahuna,” Tai Tapu. The judges for tho various classes were:—Daffodils, Mr E. A. Hamel and Mr. TV. Jones; cut flowers, pot plants, etc., Mr J. Young and Mr B. Nairn ■ decorative exhibits, Mies ' Kiver. The following are the results;— DECORATED EXHIBITS.
