“ Some of the newspapers have” made very scornful remarks regarding the lack of appliances of the brigade,” said Mr J. J. Graham at last night’s meeting of the Woolston Fire Board. “ The brigade has made some very good * saves ’ on many occasions and should ba given credit for its work,” he added. “What’s Jiis chief characteristic?” asked the policeman of the old lady, who was trying to describe the man who had t robbed her. “A large Roman nose,” said the lady. “Oh,* - replied the constable. “Then it’s no us© trying to look for him. A nose like that never turns up.”
