The death is announced of Frank Laver, the well-known cricketer. (Frank Laver was one of Australia’s cricketers. He was a member of the Australian team that toured England in 1890, and was manager of the 1903 Australian team. In Australia he represented Victoria in many intcr-Slate matches, and played in several representative matches. He was a very fair bat, but was best known for his bowling.) CANTERBURY ASSOCIATION. , The Competit ions Commit too of the assocaition was held yesterday, when it was decided that the competitions be continued on the same linos as last season, with the proviso that those players who came in under the modified rules last season be permitted to continue playing for the particular clubs they joined. It was decided to open the competitions on October 11, entries to bo lodged with the secretary on October G. It was resolved that no afternoon tea adjournment bo permitted under anv circumstances. It was decided to inform the various clubs that in future the committee intends to enforce punctual starting oi games. Anv teams that are. late on the field will be fined one point.
