A farewell social to the Rev Canon Hamilton will he held in the Fendalton Schoolroom to-night. Opportunity will also be taken to welcome the Rev H. S. Leach, who is succeeding Canon Hamilton as Vicar of the Parish. Major Hugh Vickerman, who has been in charge of the New Zealand Tunnelling Corps in France, sailed from England for New Zealand by the transport llemuera a few days ago. Major Vickerman had been investigating various engineering projects in the Old Country, including light/railways, with a view to determining their suitability as a means of transport in New Zealand. A very hearty vote of thanks was accorded last night to Mr G. L. Berry, the retiring president of. the Lawn Tennis Association, for his work during the _ war period. Mr Berry, who had declined to stanrj, for re-election on account of pressure of business, stated that he did not intend to lose interest m the association, and might some day return to more active work in connection with tne game.
