The Matatua arrived from Wellington early this morning with aboit 1500 tons of general cargo for discharge here. She is expected to leave on Monday for Dunedin to finish her discharging. The vessel will load at Dunedin,’ Port Chalmers, Timaru and Wellington for Home ports. The Matatua left Wellington on October 3, 1918, with the Forty-third Reinforcements, the last draft to leave New Zealand. Three days before she reached Sierra Leono she received a wireless message that the Armistice was signed. A fire broke out on the vessel during her voyage from London to Auckland.

The Calm, from Onehunga, arrived in port last evening. She will probably not sail for Dunedin until to-morrow. From Dunedin she will make for Timaru then back to Lyttelton.

The Mana reached port last night from Wellington. She is timed to leave this evening for Wellington. The Wootton left Wellington yesterday afternoon at 3 p.m. for Lyttelton. She should reach Lyttelton this afternoon and sail for the north again loaded with produce and general cargo to-morrow evening. The Tainui, from Wanganui, is due here this afternoon.

The Ulimaroa made her departure from Wellington for Sydney last night. The Corinna • was expected to sail from Wellington last night for Dunedin. The barquentine, Laura is now expected to leave for Auckland direct to-morrow with produce and general cargo. Mr I. King, late of the Maheno, has signed on the Mararoa as chief officer, vice Mr J. Green, who has come ’ ashore on . holiday leave.

Mr C. G. Marshall, a former purser in tho service of Iho Union Steam Ship Company, who recently returned from active service, is at present temporarily attached to the company’s head office staff at Dunedin. Mr M. O’Sullivan, third engineer of the Mokoia, signed off that vessel whilst at Wellington. Mr W. H. Richardson has joined the Mokoia as fourth engineer. The “ Sydney Shipping List ” states that tho P. and O. and Orient Shipping Company hope to resume regular mail and passenger •ervices in September on pro-war lines. It is as yet impossible to fix the sailing of steamers definitely. Probably the Macedonia will be the first of the P. and 0. vessels to take up' the running, and the Osterley will lead off for the Orient Company. These will be followed by tho Morea, Khyber, Orvieto, Orsova and Ormonde. The order, however, is as yet not definitely settled. The companies have many difficulties to contend with at present, but each is hopeful to be able to run steamers at about fortnightly intervals, thus giving practically a weekly service.

Having completed her repairs, the Kennedy was taken off the 'Wellington Patent Slin cn Wednesday. She is expected to leave Wellington to-morrow in her new running to Foxton. Captain E. Harvey, formerly captain of-the Queen of the South, will take command,, and Mr J. R. Owen (late cantain of the Queen of the South), will be mate. Mr F. Lawton v/ill be second mate, and Mr D. Ross will have the position of engineer. Captain J. M. Reeves is now in command of the scow Magic. Cantain Norling is to resume command cf the Kahu to-day. after having been on holiday leave, and Captain Lowry, who has had temporary charge of the vessel, will return to Napier for orders. The Kamo left Greymouth last evening at C o’clock, with a cargo of coal and timber for Lyttelton. She should arrive here to-morrow evening.
