SAWMILLING HINDERED. [Per Press Association.] WELLINGTON, August 21. A timber miller stated to-day that about half the sawmills on the Main Trunk line have closed clown, owing to the curtailment of the railway services, throwing several hundred men out of work.

KAIAPOI-BENNETTS LINE.

At the last meeting of the Evre County Council, it was decided to ask tlie member for the district (the Hon L>. ituddo) to convey a request to the Minister of Railways for one train a week on the Kaiapoi-Bennetts line for the purpose of carrying essential agricultural and other requisites. Mr Buddo made representation as desired, and has received a reply from the Minister to the effect that he could not accede to the request, but he hoped that the service would be resumed at an early date.
