PATRIOTIC FUND.

MEETING OF EXECUTIVE. Iho executive of the Canterbury i atriotic bund met to-day. Air H. Holland presiding. the Citizens' Defence Corps wrote, stating that it proposed to discontinue its activities about the end of the year, and therefore would not require the full amount (£517(5) granted by the Uind: one-halt would be sufficient, rlio loiter was received, and it was decided to comply with the C.D.C.’s request lor one-half the grant. A special, vote of thanks was accorded Air A. Boyle, who had been obliged to resign his position as chairman of the Agricultural and Farming Com mi tree Air C. W. Discussing the report of the Adequacy of the Fund Committee (which appears on page 51, Air H. A. Knight asked whether, in view of the fact that it was estimated that there would he seventy permanently disabled men, anything was going to be done to establish an institution for them. Afr Cyrus Williams said that estimate was on a very liberal scale—so far only one permanently disabled man had been met with. The information had not been received from Colonel Wylie. Air Knight considered the time had come for some definite conclusion. Accurate information should be obtained irom Colonel U yhc as soon as possible. Air H. B. Sorensen said he thought the men could he adequately provided for in private families and would he much happier than in an institution. Air Knight moved that the Adequacy of the Fund Committee, together with the mover and Alessrs Blackwell and Coe, with power to add to their ■number. should consider and report on the whole matter of establishing a home for permanently disabled men. The motion was carried. 'The report as a whole was then put and carried. The financial statement showed the total receipts up to July 31 to hare been £206,570 4s Id, while the total par men ts amounted to £103,645 12s 5dThe report was adopted.
