THE PRESBYTERY.

TO-DAY’S MEETING, The monthly meeting of the Christchurch I’resbytery was Held in St Raul’s Schoolroom to-day ; present—Revs J. ABrown (Moderator), Dr Erwin, J. W. Hayward, R. M. Ryehurn, John Raterson, T. AFDonald, J. S. Reid, E. AA‘. Walker, J. (J. Raterson, J. Johnston, D. •D. Rodger, AV. H. Howes, N. OWhite, F. U. Butler, J- H. Thomson, A. Kirkland, F. R,ule, J. Dickson, and G. Lindsay; elders—Alessrs John Tulloch, T. J. Rodger, AV. Robinson, J. Frame, Adam Al’Rherson, G- I. Jennings and J. Sutherland ; home missionaries—Revs J. Watt and X. Al’Callum; missionaries—G. Jackson, J. Tennent, A- 11. Coates and AV. H. Norton. The Rev J. A- Brown was elected Aloderator for the ensuing six months. Dr Erwin brought up the matter of support to home missions, and referred to the legacy that had been left to assist the missions subject to an amount similar to that mentioned in the legacy being raised b.y the Presbyterian people of tho Dominion. The Canterbury share was £2500, and Dr Erwin moved that steps be taken by tho Presbytery’ to organise to raise the amount.

The motion was seconded by the Rev John Paterson and carried. Dr Erwin and the Revs John Paterson and R. AI- Ryehurn were appointed an organising committee. The Rev AV. H. Howes tendered his resignation as Moderator of the Cheviot charge, principally owing to travelling difficulties.

The motion was accepted and the Rev A. D. Kirkland was appointed in Mr Howes’s stead.

'l’he application of the Rev M. M. Tanner to he admitted as a minister of the church was made a recommendation to the Assembly. Mrs Erwin and Mrs Hay waited on the Presbytery in regard to providing clothes for children in the orphanages. It was decided to recommend congregations to assist in the matter.
