THE LATE DEAN HILLS.
* REQUIEM :\IASS AT ST MARY’S. A solemn requiem mass for the repose of the soul of the late Dean Hills was celebrated at St Mary’s Church, Manchester Street, this morning. His Lordship Bishop Brodie was celebrant, the Very Rev Dean O’Donnell (Ashburton) was assistant priest, the Rev Father Graham, of St Bede’s College, was deacon and the Rev Father Long was sub-deacon. The Very Rev Dean Tubman (Timaru). and the Very Rev Dean Hyland (Rangiora) wee deacons of honour. The Very Rev Dr Kennedy was Master of Ceremonies. The choir was composed of male voices of priests and laymen. Mrs Cronin was organist. The panegyric was preached by Bishop Brodie. who spoke of the excellent work accomplished by Dean Hills during the forty years of his priesthood. H© had, the preacher said, worked for thirty years teaching in colleges in France, Ireland and New Zealand, until he was appointed to the parish of Leeston.
