SETTLING SOLDIERS.
CANTERBURY LAND BOARD’S WORK. BIG FIGURES FOR LAST MONTH. A message from tho Wellington correspondent of the “Lyttelton Times,” published on Saturday, showed that during July the Wellington Laud Board dealt with 202 applications for assistance from soldiers, representing a substantial sum of m’oney. Although the figures are surprising’, inquiry at the office of the Canterbury Land Board yesterday showed that its Jiily figures were much larger. It received 281 applications from soldiers, representing a total-of £346,651. It also dealt with ninety-five ordinary transfers and applications 'of different kinds.
