THE VALUE OF MARITIME QUARANTINE.

Dr Curapston’s report on the influenza epidemic states that the agents that brought about tho decline in the epidemic were not necessarily inoculation, inhalation and isolation in hospital, but there was a marked intrinsic intensity in the disease towards the period of the natural decline in viru- . fence and infectivity. He claims that the maritime quarantine was of the greatest value, but that land quarantine was quite ineffective under the system recently .attempted. A .further report states that 55,000 , soldiers have been, or will be, discharged from the Expeditionary Force in , Australia, many- of .whom will still be infective. After . allowing the prtawalense of venereal disease in Australia I>r Cumpet<m urged the establishment of a Federal department of Health to direct a campaign against it-
