[From Our Correspondents.] i SOUTH MALVERN DISTRICT. Captain and Mrs A. P. Woodcock have re- ■ turned to Whiiediffa after an absence of about four years. The formes: left soon after the war broke out, and was engaged in war work. Mrs Woodcock, who followed her husband later, was also a war worker. The Peace celebrations held at Whitecliffs proved a great success. On the Friday even- ' Dig a free concert and dance was given, the' following contributing items Misses M. Lennox, A. Matthews. M. Saturday’s celebrations commenced with the children s sports, each child being presented with a gift in addition to the prizes. Sneoiel prominence was given to a lunch provided for tho oldest residents of the - district r.i moon. This was followed by a children’s cantata, specially given in honour of the veterans. Sports were again indulged in unul darkness brought the programme to a close. xk>th old and young seemed to enjoy themselves thoroughly. At night a bonfire was lit, and a brilliant display of fireworks was • given on a hill just behind the station. After this the people returned to the school, and competitions and dancing were'kept-up - until midnight. The annual match between- the married end single men of the surrounding-districts was played in the Woihora Domain last Sat. urday._ There was a large and enthusiastic gathering of spectators, both teams finding many supporters. The. married ; team was considerably heavier than the single men. The last match took place four ‘years ago,, and resulted in a draw. This year B. Bowley captained the married men and G. Miller the. single men. Tho bachelors won the togs, and the married men kicked oS against the wind.
