FASHION HINTS FOR THE SHOPPERS.

Many of the handsomest winter suits are of velvet and velveteen, bordered with wide bands of astrachan around the hem of the coa.t and skirt, and finished with a collar of the same fur. These suits are usually extremely simple in line, with the skirt made long and narrow. The panel effect is still much worn, on. dresses of various materials, and is usually finished with wide silk or chenille fringe. Accordeon-pleated skirts are attractive, when made of georgette crepe, satin or any of the more durable materials’.

The combination of georgette crepe and serge is particularly satisfactory, since it produces a frock which, if dark in hue, may he worn to business, without seeming conspicuous, and yet be suitable for almost any informal evening occasion. Besides being practical, from , this point of view, it is a dress which may be worn , late in the spring without a wrap, because of its light wtight. Velveteen dresses, while much in vogue this season and extremely pretty when worn during the winter months, are apt to look too warm for comfort at the first mild days. Such dresses are not really practical for the woman who has few changes. The widb, flaring sleeve and the round neck continue to finish many of the closely fitting frocks. Many of these have innumerable pin tucks around the skirt, to enhance the snug appearance.
