A special mcetiiw of the Lyttelton Harbour Board was held this afternoon to consider amendments to the by-laws in order to alter charges for handling and storiuc: goods in rite board’s grain and woo! stores at Lyttelton. Mr H. B. Sorensen (chairman) presided, and there were also present—the Hon R. Moore, M.L-C., Dr Thacker, M.P., and Messrs R. Galbraith, T. ]>, Bong. J. Flood, T. A. Blackley. IV. J. Walter and F. Uorrell. The alterations weirs adopted without discussion. The shortage of railway trucks at Lyttelton was brought before the Lyttelton Harbour Board this afternoon by Dr Thacker, and it was agreed that the chairman (Mr H. B. Sorensen) and the secretary (Mr Ovrus Williams) should communicate with the Minister of Raildays, asking that trucks should bo supplied as soon as possible, in order that coal might be taken to the city without unnecessary delay. Private cable advice received in Dunedin from Vancouver states that the labour trouble there is of a serious character, and the strikes may he protracted. In case of certain goods intended for shipment to New Zealand it is recommended that they should bo sent to San Francisco and > shipped from there. At a meeting of the Kaiapoi Borough Council last- evening. 011 the motion of the Mayor, it was decided to convey to Mr IV. Fisher an appreciation fif'Di© capable, courteous and tactful manner in which he had carried out his duties as postmaster for the district.
