AWAITING EXPORT.

SEVEN MILLION CARCASES IN STORES. [Per Press Association.] WELLINGTON, June 2. Cablegrams from Ixindon reporting improvements in the shipping prospects are having a cheering effect on producers and exporters, hut anxiety will not be fully allayed until the promised ships are actually in New Zealand waters. The present position is that there are nearly 7,000,000 carcases of frozen meat in tho stores. Of this quantity, the Department of Imperial Supplies is expected to ship hut--760.000 freight carcases during the present month. Tho cheese stores contain about 300.000 crates, and tho pressure will tic much relieved during this month and the next. There is no doubt that there bus been some deterioration in portions of this cheese, owing to, the delay in shipment. The deterioration, however, docs not affect the producers, tho loss fallinor upon tho Imperial Government. But it lias to be taken into account when prices are being compared. Now Zealand producers are not getting as good a price under the Imperial contract ns the Canadian producers nr© getting from a free market; bub, on tho other hand, tho New Zealand producers have had tho advantage of a fixed price and secure market at a time when shipping was exceedingly scarce. The amount of wool in store in tho Dominion is about 400,000 bales, of which roughly 100.000 bales nro washed, scoured and sliped wool. Shipment is not as pressing in tho esse of wool as in tho case of cheese, since tho wool does not deteriorate in store.
