The AVashinglon correspondent of the “New York Times” states that Toners, commander of tho N. 0.3 seaplane, cabled a report to the Navy Department from Ponta Delgada, in tho Azores. The report shows that the seaplane was compelled to descend into) the sen on the morning of May 17 for the purpose of making; observations. The sea was rourrh, and tho machine was damaged in alighting, but was able to rise. The mishap occurred eightyfive miles south of the proper course, and 205 miles from Ponta Delgada-N.C-3 taxied on the surface of the sea for more than fifty-two hours, in spite of the heavy gale, and reached Ponta Delgada on Alay If). Both wing pontoons were lost on the way. HAWKER’S MACHINE. (Received June 2, 12.30 a.m.) NEW YORK, May 31. A message to tho “ New York Times” from Falmouth states that Captain Rake, of the Charlottevillo, who landed Haker’s aeroplane, considers that the machine is his property. It is understood that tho Sopwith Company has offered a large sum for its salvage.
