» TOWN PLANNING. Thcro was a larfjo and representative gathering of citizens in (lie ’ City Council Chambers this afternoon, ‘ when a public meeting was held, under the auspices of the Canterbury Progress League, to consider town 'planning proposals for Christchurch. The Mayor (Dr Thacker) presided. Mr P. K. Cliraic, organiser of the Progress League, explained that tiro meeting was, called with a view to following. up the work done at tho recent Town Planning Conference in Wellington. OAMARU, June 2. Information was received this afternoon of a fatal motor accident at Hillgrove, by which Mrs J. Mahoney, wife of a farmer at Enfield, was'tilled,. It appears that a party of lour were on the way to Dunedin in a car owned and driven by Jchn Mahoney, the others beng Mrs Mahoney, Miss Mahoney and Duncan Cameron. At a sharp corner An the Kartigi Road the car met a dray and to avoid a collision the car was turned into the bank. It capsized, and Mrs Mahoney was thrown out violently and killed instantaneously. ' Miss Mahoney had her jawbone broken, besides receiving injuries ,to her hip. Cameron received slight injuries, and Mahoney escaped unscathed. Mrs Mahoney was aged sisty-one. AUCKLAND RACING CLUB. .
