She should reach Lyttelton tonight. The Invercargill is due here to-morrow-night from the north. It is understood that the Imperial Government has terminated its charier of the hospital ship Maheno, now at Port Chalmers. If such is the case, oho will bo refitted for the passenger- service. The Devon, from Newcastle, arrived in the stream 'at 0 . a.m. this morning. The Devon is a steel twin-screw four-masted steamer of 9661 gross tons, class 100 A 1 in Lloyd’s. She was built in July, 1915, at Dunkirk, by the Atel and Ch. do Franco for the Federal Steam' Navigation Company, Limited. Her length is 473 feet, width 59.9 feet, and breadth.36.7 feet. She is bringing an Australian mail. The Kamo is timed to leave Lyttelton for Greymouth to-day to again load for Lyttelton. The Kini left Greymouth early yesterday mothing for Lyttelton, -with a cargo of timber. She should roach hero early to-morrow morning. The Arawa, now loading at Lyttelton, is - expected to sail for the south on Thursday. The Waipori, from Newcastle, is due here tp-morrow with a cargo of coal. The Breeze, from Dunedin, via Timaru, is expected here to-morrow. , The Corinna arrived at Lyttelton oh Saturday morning, and sailed during the evening for Nelson and New Plymouth. The Koromiko on Saturday finished discharging the Lyttelton,portion of her cargo «f coal from Newcastle and left during the night for Timaru to complete her unloading. .She’ will probably return to Lyttelton to load for northern ports. The Kaitangata, from Auckland direct, arrived at Lyttelton yesterday morning. She is to load a full cargo x>i produce hero and, will return to Auckland. The Pakeha, from Loudon, via Wellington, arrived at Lyttelton early yesterday morning with 5000 tons of coal from New 4 port News, for discharge here. The unloading operation will .take about a fortnight. Captain R. S. Lewis is in command, and has with him the following officers:—Chief officer, H. Falconer; feccond, A. Blade; third, J. A meeting of engineers of small steamers who axe members of the Institute of Marino Engineers, was held at Wellington on Friday, and a further meeting has been called for to-day, at Wellington. The new C. and D. liner Port Denison, built last year, is on-her maiden voyage, and arrived at Port Philip Bay on May 10. She left London on March 25, and came, via the Cape, in ballast. The Poherua is expected to comple,to the discharging of her cargo of coal to-day, and will leave for Wellington this evening. The Tarawera, from Oamaru, arrived in port yesterday, to load for Napier and Gisborne. Owing to a shortage of railway trucks the Wootton could not complete her loading and discharging, and consequently has boon delayed until to-day. when it is hoped to dispatch her for Wellington. Tha Orepuki did not sail for Greymouth on Saturday as expected. Her agents hope to dirnalcb her to-night. The Cunarcl Line has purchased a now steamer from the British Admiralty, for delivery in three months. The now steamer is a fine vessel of about 7000 tons gross, somewhat similar to the Port Chalmers. She will I© named the Port Curtis. The fitorm. from Timaru. arrived here yesterday She is exuected to sail this evening for Picton and Wanganui. A NEW DOCK. Thera was opened recently for business at the Norfolk Navy yard, Norfolk, Va., what is claimed to be the world’s largest dry dock, constructed by the Georgo Leary Construction Company. The structure is i(>22ft long, and can dock vessels up to 1000 ft in length. Tho width at the coping is 341 ft, the draught over tho keel blocks is 40ft at high water and 43ft over tho sill. A floating caisson, 132 ft by 26ft, closes the entrance.
