EXHIBITS IN CHRISTCHURCH. As a result of the efforts of the Mayor and Mr S. They include some excellent views from the groat American cities, notably Washington, from South Africa, Canada, fiance, Italy and Australia. There are some very line views of German cities, including a series “ from , tho point ot view of the Allied aviator, ’ and pictures of tho slums, " which are nut seen by the tourist,” as the superscription naively puts it. In addition to numerous photographs of the world’s gioat monuments, tnere are drawings of some lino imaginative efforts of great town planners and architects, ilicse include a daring scheme for the remodelling of the whole of the central area of Sydney, with a view to establishing a great civic area. The “hanging” of the various exhibits was a smart piece of work on the part of the organisers, who wore unable to get them from tho vessel at Lyttelton until Saturday evening, and "who, in order to have them ready for yesterday afternoon, had to crowd what in tho ordinary course of events would be a hard day's work into a few hours. The exhibition will be opened by tho Mayor in the Art Gallery at. lO'a.m. to-day. It will be open to the public free every day from 10 a.m. to 9.30 p.m. until Wednesday. All school children, teachers, members of societies and organisations and of borough councils, county councils and road boards are specially invited to attend. Motion pictures shown at tho conference will be on view in Christchurch later on. A preliminary Town Planning Conference will be opened in the Citv Council' Chambers at 2.30 p.m. ‘to-day. All citizens are invited to attend. I Mr E. J. Righton has shown a keen interest in the town planning exhibition. He has arranged for the Now Zealand Picture Supplies, Ltd., of which he is managing director, to place at the- disposal of the local committee the biograph film that was recently , «hown at the Dominion Conference at Wellington, for display in Christchurch, and to allow the film to he screened at Liberty Theatre free to the public, provided the Departments of Internal Affairs and Public Health place no obstacles in tho way.
