MINISTER'S VIEWS. [PiiE Pmsss Association.] WELLINGTON, Slay 22. The Minister of Mines addressed tlio Town Planning Conference to-day. Ho arud the people needed not, only good houses hut good surroundings, mid lie was of opinion that the subject, could lie handled best by one central body, armed with proper powers, and having at its disposal tlio advice of an export. If the Dominion was to have, not more clusters of houses, but properly planned towns, special State action was needed. “The City Beautiful” was the subject of a paper read by MrJ. F. Munaings, architect to the Government of Bibar and Orissa. He said that if New Zealand was to produce beautiful towns thin efforts of the people must be coordinated on a sound financial or commercial basis. By far the greater part, of the cost was that covering the rectification of past mistakes and the compensation to vested interests.
