OBITUARY.

LIEUTENANT 0. DARTNALL. Second-Lieutenant Clement Dartnall, who died in the Fea then-ton Military Hospital of pneumonia, following influenza, enlisted and went into camp in April, 1915, and was drafted to tho N.C.O. camp. Ho left New Zealand with the Sixth Reinforcement as sergeant. He saw considerable active service on Gallipoli and was among the last few to leave on evacuation. He went to Franco among the first New Zealanders and saw a good deal of lighting, and was wounded severely in tho right shoulder during the Somme fight. For bravery during this battle he was awarded the Military Medal. After .spending many months recovering from his wound, he entered Cambridge and sat for his commission, which ho gained, and a little later returned to tho Dominion on duty. After about six weeks’ furlough with bis parents (Air and Airs H. L. Dartnall, Jackson’s Rond, Fcndalton, Into of Springston), bo returned to camp and was to have left again with tho. Thirtyeight Reinforcement, hut on examination he was classed Cl, and for some time he has been lieutenant in the Featherston G1 camp. He was horn at Springston and educated at the local school, and afterwards attended the Boys’ High School for a couple of years. On leaving school ho entered his father’s business at Springston. Ho was a very keen lawn tennis player and was captain of the local club" at the time he enlisted.
