FOOTBALL.

—.—+ CORRESPONDENCE. THE REPRESENTATIVE TEAM. TO THE EDITOR. Sir, —The selection of the team to play against 'Wellington on Saturday next does not show the selectors in a very good light as judges of football, or father of men who should play a certain style of game- The exhibition given by the Wellington forwards should have been sufficient to show that it is brawn and muscle that will play a prominent part in the next game. ‘ As ibis, we have-throe players in the team who were passengers on Saturday, and one always likely to he in football of this description. Murray and the Cummiugs brothers will once again have to hear the brunt of the forward work, and. apart from this, too little protection will he given to the light back division, who will simply he unable to work against the tactics that mark Wellington football. I wonder if the selectors have seen Smith plav this season. If they have, they must bo very poor judges to hare omitted him from the team. One of the cleanest players in the town, he can adapt himself to any conditions,, and the same remarks apply, to Edmonds and Ellis We do not want a repetition of Saturdays play, and the only hope of averts nig incidents like those which occurred is in playing hefty forwards who can, at least, give their backs protection. The selection, sir is a disappointment, and e% en the most optimistic can hardly hold out very high hopes of success in next .Saturday's game.—.l imi, etc., fair play.
