Mr_ John Brunion, M.A., head master of tlio Southbrook School, has been appointed to the position of rector ot tho Hokitika District High School. Fast week Sir James Carroll celebrated his sixty-first birthday, and a number of Maori and pakelia friends assembled at the Masonic Hotel Gisborne, and congratulated Sir James on hat ing reached a further milestone in his hies journey. Several interesting speeches wore made by representative Aat i vos, all their speeches being couched in the Maori tongue.
