Afr Keith Murdoch, writing from the Australian" Headquarters, says:—The machine-guns employed by the' Germans against the Australians were so thick that the first waves of tho attackers passed scores of them, so that tho mon-per-up .had the bloodiest fighting of tho day, .stalking the gunners and collecting, hundreds of quivering Bodies from their, touts. Borne Germans attacked the advancing tanks and pelted lman, with bullets, until thev had not an inch of surface unmarked, the bulets,,sticking put of tho armour thickly- One tank broke down and bad Bodies dpmboruig over it. sticking pistols m the openings, while mad Gormans assailed .another with bayonets pricking its sides until they wore shot viowu. '
