PRISONERS OF WAR.
We are glad to notice that the executive of the Red Cross Society yesterday passed a resolution in favour of making an appeal throughout the Dominion for funds for British prisoners of war. Tiie moving account given by Tom Sullivan of prison camp conditions in Germany is fresh in the public memory, and the suggestion was made in these columns that something should be done to ameliorate tho unfortunate lot of the prisoners. The Red Cross Society is eminently the proper body to make the appeal, and we have iio doubt that when it is put before the public there will bo a prompt response. The Dominion has shown its readiness to meet demands on its sympathy and liberality where the good of onr soldiers is concerned. •Prisoners of war are sometimes paying the price of their own gallantry, and they aro certainly entitled to the kindly consideration of patriotic contributors. The Canterbury Centre has backed' up its recommendation with a gift of £2OO, and tho New Zealand executive should lose no time in launching a Dominion appeal.
