LINWOOD. At the last, monthly meeting of the Lin- ? f O° d b( F 00 tommitteo there were present Messrs Denton (chairman), Herbert, King Gtmclry, Coulter and R. Carter. The head master (Mr hj. T. Evans) reported that since re-opening on January 28. sevonty-threc new IJUpilij lllld lieCll ttclmlUetl and seventy-seven withdrawn, the roll number now being 710 and the average attendance 645. In the recent Government examinations Doris Mil'cr and EJeen Baynes had gained Junior National scholarships, and nine pupils had passed the tree place examination. Of the fifty-two pupils in Standard VI., all had passed, forty-six gaining the higher certificate. Owing to an increased average attendance, the board had appointed Miss D, Browins as assistant mistress, pending a permanent appointment being made. Miss R-. Opie and E. Earqnhar had been'appointed pupil teachers. It was decided to hold the school picnic on March 1, at Linwood Parle, and to write to the City Council for the use of the grounds. It was agreed to spend .650 or. further improvements 0 in the playground and to provide seats and a large sand-pit for the infants. The balancesheet of the fair hold in December Inst showed a net profit of £139 8s 6d, half of which was te be voted to the Linwood-Dallinglon Soldiers Aid. The Board of Education had again placed the school in Grade I. for the teaching of agriculture, and it was agreed to write to Mr Shirlaw, M.A., congratulating him on the result of his labours. It was decided to unveil the roll of honour next month and Messrs Denton, Carter, Herbert and Evans were appointed to make arrangements.
