THE ALIEN ACT.
MARKWALD’S APPEAL
DISMISSED.
(Received February 16, 3.5 p.m.) LONDON, February 15. The appeal of Heinrich Markwald was dismissed.
(A previous cable stated that Heinrich Markwald, for many years in business in Australia, appealed to tiro King’s Bench against a lino of £5 for failing to register as an alien. Mr Ernest Pollock, K.C., argued that Markwald, under the Australian naturalisation, was to all intents and purposes a British subject. Mr Justice Lawrence said that it appeared to him that this was precisely the class of case where a man ought tc he placed under surveillance. Judgment was reserved.)
