HYDRO-ELECTRIC SCHEME.
NORTH ISLAND REQUEST FOR GOVERNMENT ACTI ON. [Per Pniiss Association. 1 WELLINGTON", August 16. A large deputation, representing town and local bodies in Wellington Province, waited on Mr Mas-soy, Sir Joseph Ward and Mr Eraser this afternoon to urge .a vigorous prosecution of the hyd ro-olectric scheme. The deler gatee 'emphasised the success of tho Lake scheme and pointed out that much water power was going to waste. The three Ministers wkm:o sympathetic in replying, but pointed out that war considerations had to be dealt with before anything elite. Mr Fra'ser explained also that there wa s a. great shortage of la.bour, and ikifit year because of this fact he badi not been able to spend half tho amount! ailooatjpd him- The work would be put in hand as noon as money and men were available.
