MOST VALUABLE MIRROR KNOWN.

LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA, June 7. Within a few days the giant lOOin mirror of the new telescope in the observatory at tho top of Mount Wilson will begin its perilous ascent of nine miles up the mountainside. Plans are complete to-day for the trip, and the journey will be one of the most novel ever made by a piece of freight. It will make the irip upon a giant motor truck, with special springs, and the mirror itself will be wrapped against jar and possible damage such as never before is known to have been the ca«# with an inanimate object going on ft journey. Probably no more painstaking jag has been undertaken in the world. It has taken twelve years to cast and shape this immense glass disc, which i« expected to explore unplumbed reachei of the universe. Because of the war, it cannot be duplicated in the rough J bo its intrinsic value is inestimable. Ita potential value to astronomical science is almost limitless.
