METROPOLITAN TROTTING CLUB.

AUGUST MEETLNO. The August meeting vl the New Zealand Metropolitan Trotting Club was opened today in fine weather. Unfortunately, howover, tho truck was very heavy. It received a thorough soaking from the rnin which fell yesterday and though the sun was shining all this morning, it had littlo effect in drying* tho track. In all other Tcspects the conditions for the meeting were favourable. The stewards' stand, which was destroyed by firo lafit November, has since been rebuilt, and with the exception of a few minor details, it was complete for to-day's meeting. The stand has been improved in one or two respects in its inside arrangements, but in the main it is a replica of the original building. General Wylio was well clear of G.adeyo at, the entrance to the. straight, and, going on. ho won bv two lengths from Mahinga, with Lady Rothsoon. who finished fast, two lengtns further back, with Gladeyo. next, just clear of Red Prince, who headed a big bunch.
