A GALLANT CORPORAL. HOW HE CAPTURED TWO MACHINE GUNS. (Received August 15, noon.) (Special from tho New Zealand Official War Correspondent.) August 13. In nil the recent fighting in which New Zealanders took part there was nothing finer than the 6plendid heroiam and leadership of a Wellington corporal, who was specially detailed to attack and capture an enemy machlno-guii position in«an isolalted estaminet. Ho led his men forward onlj r to come unexpectedly npon another gun that was sending out a continuous stream of bullets and holding up the advance on tho left. He immediately attacked this position, lolled several of tho crew and put the rest to flight. After this adventure he was able to get only three of his men ■together. With these three he proceeded to gain his ultimate objeotive. Observing that a frontal attack would mean, (the destruction of his little band he led hia party through some thistles and attacked from the rear as soon as he was olose enough. The intrepid quartet threw bombs alt the crew and rushed upon the Germans killing four and pitting the rest to flight and capturing the gun and the position. Leaving two men behind to remove the gun the corporal took the remaining man with him and advanced on a reconnoitring expedition as far as our barrage would permit. He brought tack valuable information. Throughout the whole of these operations enemy shells were pounding into the, position and there was much machine-gun and rifle fire.
